About Sherri

Sherri L. Cox is a Pennsylvania native who relocated to Washington, D.C., in the mid-1980s after earning her Associate’s Degree in Computer and Business Management from the ICM School of Business. A visionary leader and serial entrepreneur, Ms. Cox has guided individuals and organizations in establishing sustainable ventures across multiple industries.

As a Certified Transformational Coach, she empowers people to identify their purpose and align their lives with their calling. She is also a Certified Facilitator for Thinking for a Change (T4C), a cognitive-behavioral program focused on transforming thought patterns and promoting positive decision-making.

Currently, she serves as a member of the Maryland Statewide Alliance for Returning Citizens (MSARC), advocating for justice-impacted individuals statewide. Ms. Cox is an active member of the Lived Experience Committee (LEC) under leadership of Governor Wes Moore, and leads the committees’ direction by Secretary Carolyn J. Scruggs ensuring reentry is a staple in the state of Maryland.

With over 30 years of leadership in the nonprofit sector, Ms. Cox has managed multi-million-dollar revenues on national and international platforms, including roles with the American Red Cross, Greenpeace, and Catholic Charities. At the American Red Cross, she established call centers in 28 states for the “Get Info” disaster assistance initiative, an operation that remains active today. At Greenpeace, she managed over $238 million in global revenue, including a $20 million capital campaign for Catholic Charities, demonstrating her expertise in financial stewardship, fundraising, and strategic partnership development.

Her unwavering commitment to social impact justice is reflected powerfully through her public service. As a Program Analyst with the D.C. Department of Corrections, Ms. Cox worked directly with returning citizens to design and implement educational and employment programs that supported successful reentry into the community. She later served as the Returning Citizens Liaison for the Returning Citizens Affairs Division (RCAD) under the quasi-government of the Prince George’s County Executive Office, where she played a pivotal role in building a comprehensive reentry ecosystem.

In this capacity, Ms. Cox spearheaded the development of strategic partnerships, secured funding through contracts and grants distributed throughout the ecosystem. Through her strategic leadership, Ms. Cox secured the GOCPP grant awarded by the State of Maryland, which funded the development of a comprehensive reentry hub in Laurel to support returning citizens with employment, housing, and community reintegration services. She also led workforce programs, including the partnership with Prince George’s Community College, creating skills trade initiative the Welcome Home Program. Ms. Cox collaborated with faith-based and community-based organizations to establish sustainable pathways of opportunity, ensuring justice-impacted individuals returning to Prince George’s County had access to the resources, support, and opportunities they needed to thrive.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Cox is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of change agents. She currently mentors six formerly justice-impacted individuals who are emerging as social justice advocates and community entrepreneurs designed for impact, guiding them to become effective leaders within their industries and local communities. Through her leadership, she continues to inspire hope, drive systemic change, and demonstrate what is possible when purpose and perseverance meet opportunity.

In her spare time, Ms. Cox enjoys traveling, cooking, fishing and interior design. These activities allow her to reflect, create, and stay grounded while continuing her journey of purpose and impact.
